Frequently Asked Questions

We try to anticipate questions you might have about our  hospital and provide the answers here. If you need additional information please send email to info@pacificanimalhospital.com or call our office at (760)757-2442.

1.
What are your office hours?

Monday through Friday, our office is open from 8:00am to 7:00pm.  On Saturdays, we are open from 8:00am until 5:00pm and Sundays, we are open from 9:00am until 4:00pm.

2.

Do I need to make an appointment?

Patients are seen by appointment only.  If possible, please call ahead if you have an emergency.

3.

Can I just drop my pet off and pick him/her up after work?

Yes, we encourage drop off examinations as a convenience for our clients.  We will ask you to fill out a form describing the reason for your pet's visit and a phone number where you can be reached.

4.

Do you take credit cards?

Yes, we take Mastercard, Visa, American Express and Discover.

5.

Can I make payments?

Payment is required at the time services are rendered. However, we work with Care Credit and encourage clients to consider health insurance through VPI (Veterinary Pet Insurance).

6.

What does a physical exam include?

A physical exam includes careful examination of your pet's eyes, ears, teeth and gums, heart and lungs, lymph nodes, joints, skin, and abdomen. We recommend  complete physical exams for your pet twice a year.

7.

What vaccines does my dog need?

We prefer to vaccinate puppies at 8, 12 and 16 weeks of age.  Although we determine  specific vaccine needs based on your pet's lifestyle, generally all puppies will need protection from Distemper, Parvo, Parainfluenza, Adenovirus, and Rabies.

8.

What vaccines does my cat need?

We prefer to vaccinate kittens at age 9 and 12 weeks.  Usually we vaccinate with the "core vaccines" which include Distemper and upper respiratory viruses, along with Feline Leukemia virus.  Adult cats are vaccinated according to lifestyle need. We balance the risk of disease exposure versus the rare but real risk of vaccine related sarcoma.  Please ask your veterinarian for advice on vaccines for your pet.

9.

What do I  feed my puppy or kitten?

Puppies and kittens need a well balanced high quality diet to insure their continued growth and development. This can be achieved by feeding  a puppy or kitten maintenance diet until about one year of age. For large fast growing breeds, a "large breed puppy" diet is best to help prevent orthopedic problems common in the larger breeds of dogs.

11.

Can I bathe my pet after surgery, and how long before the sutures are removed?

Please wait at least one week before bathing or grooming your pet.  Depending on the surgery, sutures usually stay in for 14 days.

12.

Can I see the same veterinarian for my pet's needs?

Of course, and we would prefer this as well.  It is always best to see the doctor you are most comfortable with and who knows the most about your pet.  Please let us know your preference when you call for an appointment.

13.

Do you board pets at the hospital?

Sorry no, we do not have the space to board healthy pets.
